How to find logistics jobs in Ghana

Distinguish port, warehouse, fleet and supply-chain work and verify the actual employer.

Logistics vacancies can involve a port, warehouse, distribution fleet, procurement team or delivery platform. The title may be similar while the work, shift, licence and risk are not. Government reporting describes activity at Tema port, while the Ghana Cyber Security Authority warns applicants to verify job advertisements. A port logo in a message is not a job. This guide helps applicants choose a function, show accurate operational evidence and check the written terms before accepting a role.

Find the organisation behind the operation

GPHA manages port operations, but a government report about port activity is not the hiring portal for every shipping, haulage or warehouse company at Tema or Takoradi. Distinguish the authority from terminal operators, contractors and freight forwarders. Ask who signs the contract and where the person reports. A role at a port gate can be employment by a contractor, not GPHA. A distribution company may list a central office while the daily shift begins at a depot. Use the original employer vacancy, not a copied port photograph, to confirm the role, reference and deadline.

Break the search into port operations, shipping agents, freight forwarding, warehouse work and road distribution. A role near Tema or Takoradi may be employed by a contractor rather than the port authority. Ask which organisation issues the contract and whether the shift begins at a depot, gate or office. Match the CV to the actual control point: stock accuracy, customs records, delivery exceptions, fleet scheduling or safe vehicle operation. Describe an error you detected and how you escalated it. A general claim of being familiar with the port is weaker than a real record of careful handovers and the correct licence status.

Show controls, handovers and licence status

For a warehouse role, explain receiving, counting, stock discrepancies and safe storage. For fleet operations, show scheduling, delivery records and escalation of delays. For procurement, show how you checked orders against invoices. A driving role may require a specific valid licence; state the status rather than assuming any licence covers the vehicle. Technical or supervisory qualifications should match the advert. A brief National Service placement can demonstrate accurate records if its duties are described honestly. Do not publish customer routes or confidential stock figures in a portfolio.

Watch for port and transport scams

The Ghana Cyber Security Authority advises applicants to verify job advertisements through the named employer. Verify a job at the authority through its official site or published contact; verify a contractor through that company's own domain. Do not pay for a port card or shortlist on the instruction of a stranger. A real employer may later arrange security and safety processes, but it should identify the route and its authorised provider. Keep the original vacancy and compare any new message with its job title and reference before sharing identity documents.

Follow the method in the live vacancy. Copy the reference number accurately, send documents in the requested format and keep a confirmation. Some employers have group portals, public bodies have forms and small firms use verified email; one route cannot be assumed for all. A message that changes the application method or requests money should be checked through an independently found employer contact. Workghana.net links to the original source and charges no applicant fee. Do not send a Ghana Card image or bank details to an unverified message account.

Read the roster, liability and travel terms

Ask whether shifts are nights or weekends, where work begins, who provides protective gear and who bears vehicle or fuel costs. A driver should know how damage, traffic fines and maintenance are handled. A warehouse worker should know the lifting and safety expectations. Request basic pay, overtime, allowances, probation, contract duration and reporting lines in writing. Ghana's Labour Act is the general framework, but the practical arrangement can vary across a port authority, contractor and delivery firm. Compare the real costs before accepting.

Before accepting, ask for the legal employer, duty station, basic pay, allowances, hours, contract length, probation, supervision and any tools or travel you must provide. Ask which terms are in writing and read them before resigning from another role. Ghana's Labour Act is the employment framework, but the individual offer determines many practical details. A famous client name may not be the entity that pays a contractor. Compare take-home value and predictable costs, including late transport and equipment, rather than choosing only the highest headline figure.

Progress through reliable operations

Keep evidence of accuracy, punctual handovers and problem resolution. Learn the organisation's stock, route or customs processes under supervision; do not claim authority you did not have. Ask for feedback on errors and identify a next role such as inventory control, dispatch planning or procurement support. A short course can help if the actual target role asks for it, and CTVET can help verify technical training. A stable record with a genuine employer is more valuable than repeatedly paying for alleged port access.

Build a record of work you can lawfully discuss: tasks, tools, checks, outcomes and who supervised you. Ask for feedback early and identify the next actual role rather than buying an unrelated certificate. If applications are not leading to interviews, review whether you met the core criteria and whether your first CV examples show them. If interviews fail, practise explaining your own contribution and limits. A career path is built through verified experience and current openings; a training programme, database profile or positive conversation is not itself an offer.
