Sums marked as ours are our arithmetic on the official figures. Ghana sets the minimum as a daily rate, so the monthly, hourly and dollar figures are not separate legal rates. Section 76 writes its two monthly sums for temporary and casual workers. The 2025 figure is 21.77 / 1.09, and it matches SSNIT's 2025 floor of 539.19 / 27. We found no 2025 communique to link.

How much is the minimum wage per month in Ghana?

It depends on your work pattern. Section 76 of the Labour Act gives two sums for temporary and casual workers. If you work weekdays only, you multiply the daily wage by 27, which gives GHS 587.79. If you work every day of the week, you multiply it by 365 and divide by 12, which gives GHS 662.17.

SSNIT uses almost the same figure. Its minimum insurable earning for 2026 is GHS 587.80, raised from GHS 539.19 because of the new wage. That makes the two numbers people quote, 587.79 and 587.80, the same thing with a rounding difference.

What do you take home on the minimum wage?

On GHS 587.80 a month, SSNIT takes 5.5%, which is GHS 32.33. That leaves GHS 555.47, which is under the first GHS 588 of the PAYE table, so PAYE is nil and you take home GHS 555.47. Your employer pays another 13% on top.

On GHS 662.17 for a seven day week, SSNIT is GHS 36.42 and GHS 625.75 is left. The part above GHS 588 is taxed at 5%, which is GHS 1.89, so you'd take home GHS 623.86. These are our sums on GRA's table from 1 September 2026. The PAYE calculator linked below works out other amounts.

Is the minimum wage tax free?

The communique says the committee recommends that the 2026 wage should be tax exempt. That is a recommendation in a signed statement, not a line in a tax table, and GRA's PAYE page doesn't mention it. In practice, pay at GHS 587.80 falls under the tax-free band anyway. The GHS 1.89 above is what the table gives for a full seven day month, so ask payroll if you see a small PAYE line at this level.

Who does it cover, and what if you're paid less?

The communique says all establishments, institutions and organisations paying below the new rate should adjust from 1 January 2026, and those who flout it will be sanctioned in accordance with the law. Casual workers must get the full minimum pay for each day they attend, even if the weather stops work, under sections 74 and 76 of the Labour Act. For a worker on the monthly sum, section 76 lets the employer leave out pay for each day of absence.

If your pay is lower, keep your payslips or a record of days and pay, and raise it in writing with your employer or union. The Act gives labour inspectors the job of enforcing its pay and working conditions, and the National Labour Commission deals with complaints of unfair labour practices. Has the 2027 minimum wage been announced?

We found no official 2027 figure when we checked on 2 November 2026. The 2026 rate was signed on 9 November 2025, so a new one could come at about this time of year. Figures online before the committee signs are only guesses. We'll change this page when the official communique appears on the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission's site.
