Single spine salary structure Ghana: the official table and the 9% rise for 2026

The newest full single spine table the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission publishes is the 2020 one, with 25 levels. Base pay rose 9% across the board for 2026, and we could not find a 2026 table.

The newest full Single Spine Salary Structure on the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission's site is the one effective 1 January 2020, and the site still files it under Current. It has 25 levels, and we print it below. It isn't what anyone is paid today: the base pay agreement for 2026 raised pay on the structure by 9% across the board from January to December 2026, and there have been rises in between. We couldn't find an official 2026 table, and we won't build one by guessing.

Copied from the signed FWSC table for 2020. The table doesn't state a period. The figures read as yearly amounts, but we couldn't confirm that on an official page. Blank cells have no figure in the table. This is not the current pay scale.

How do you read the table?

Each row is a level and each column is a step. Level 16 step 1, a level people often search for, is printed as 22,934.75, and level 25 step 1 is 72,163.70. Each step is 1.7% above the one before it, which matches the 1.7% pay point relativity in the 2020 base pay agreement.

FWSC prints some figures in bold and calls them L/H. It says these mark the end of a Low level and the start of a High one, which is step 1 of a High level. The same amounts also repeat across levels: level 1 step 10 and level 2 step 1 are both 3,841.25.

What did the 2026 agreement change?

The Agreement on Base Pay for 2026 was signed on 9 November 2025 by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the Minister for Finance and organised labour. Its first term says base pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure rises by 9% across the board from January 2026 to December 2026.

So if your base pay was GHS 3,000 a month in December 2025, a 9% rise makes it GHS 3,270. That sum uses a made-up salary to show the percentage, not a point on the scale. Don't multiply the 2020 table by 1.09: it would skip the rises between 2020 and 2026, and you'd get a number that nobody is paid.

What level are nurses, teachers and police on?

We can't tell you, and we'd be wary of anyone who says they know from a forwarded chart. FWSC doesn't publish a list matching each job to a level that we could open. Your level and step should be on your appointment or promotion letter, and your accounts or HR office can confirm them. That's why this site has no page on what a nurse or a teacher earns.

Is the single spine being replaced?

In a press release of 17 July 2026, FWSC said Ghana is carrying out a major reform of public sector pay, ending with the creation of an Independent Emoluments Commission. It described interim arrangements during the change. It gave no new pay table, so the agreement above is still the latest official figure we can give you.

What will I take home?

Start from your current gross on your payslip. SSNIT is 5.5% of your basic pay, and PAYE follows the bands in force from 1 September 2026. On GHS 3,270 a month, all basic, SSNIT is GHS 179.85 and PAYE is GHS 420.38, leaving GHS 2,669.77. The PAYE calculator linked below shows it line by line. Allowances change the sum, so use your own payslip.
