Application letter and email builder for jobs in Ghana

Fill in the job, the employer and two lines about yourself. You'll get a formal letter and a short email, ready to copy and change. Nothing you type is saved.

This tool runs only in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. No signup.

You

For example: 3 years as a sales assistant in a phone shop

For example: stock control, customer care and Excel

One sentence that could only be about them.

The job

For example: my certificates

Type your name, the job title and the employer to see your subject line, email and cover letter.

Before you send

  • Follow the advert first. If it gives an email address, send it there. GNPC, for one, asks for applications at [email protected]. If it gives a portal or a post office box, use that instead.
  • If you know the person's name, write Dear Mr or Dear Ms and end with Yours sincerely. If you don't, write Dear Sir or Madam and end with Yours faithfully.
  • Send your CV as a PDF and name the file with your name and the post. Don't send your Ghana Card, bank details or a mobile money PIN with an application.
  • Applying is free. If anyone asks you to pay to have your letter read or your name put forward, stop and check the job.

A letter for a driver post might open: I am writing to apply for the post of Driver at your company, which I saw on your website. Next comes one line on your licence and years of driving, one on what you can do, and a closing with your phone number. That's all it needs. If you can't say why you fit the job in five lines, a longer letter won't help.

Should I send a letter or an email?

Do what the advert says. GNPC, for example, takes applications by email at [email protected]. A private shop may want a letter handed in, and the security services use an online form. This tool gives you both a letter and an email, so you can use whichever is asked for.

How do I write the address on an application letter in Ghana?

Your own address goes at the top right, with your town, your digital address or post office box, your phone and the date. The employer's title and address go below it on the left. Then come the greeting and a heading such as Application for the post of Cashier. If you're sending an email, you can leave the addresses out.

Dear Sir or Dear Mr?

If the advert names a person, use the name and finish with Yours sincerely. If it doesn't, write Dear Sir or Madam and finish with Yours faithfully. Use The Human Resources Manager as the address line when you don't have a name, and don't invent one.

What should the email look like?

Put the post and your name in the subject line, along with any reference number from the advert. Keep the message to a few lines, and attach your CV as a PDF. Send it from an address with your own name in it. Check the advert again for anything else it asks for, such as certificates in one file.

Questions people ask

Do I have to pay to submit an application letter?

No. Applying for a job is free. If anyone asks you to pay to have your letter read or your name put forward, treat it as a warning sign.

How long should an application letter be?

Keep it to one page. Three short paragraphs are usually enough: the job, why you fit it, and how to reach you.

Can I handwrite it?

Only if the advert asks you to. Otherwise type it, so it's easy to read and easy to send again.
