  1. Have they asked you to pay anything to the person offering the job: a form, processing, training, a medical or a uniform?
  2. Have they asked you to deposit money to get more tasks or to release what you have earned?
  3. Has someone offered to get you into the Armed Forces, Police or another service through a person they know, for money?
  4. Have they asked for your mobile money PIN, a one-time code or your bank login?
  5. Did the offer reach you out of the blue by SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram or email, for a job you never applied for?
  6. Is the pay high for easy work, such as liking posts or giving reviews from your phone?
  7. Is all the contact through WhatsApp or Telegram, with no office, no landline and no named manager you can check?
  8. Is the job missing from the employer's own website or from the official vacancy page?
  9. Does the application link go to an address that isn't the employer's own website?
  10. Does the recruiter write from a Gmail, Yahoo or other free email address instead of the employer's own?
  11. Do they want a picture of your Ghana Card or your bank details before you have had any interview?
  12. Have they offered you the job with no interview, and told you to decide or act today?

0 of 12 answered. Your result shows when you've answered them all. Nobody should pay for a job.

This is a checklist to help you think. It can't prove a job is real or fake.

Ghana's Cyber Security Authority warned in November 2023 of job scams that start with a message on WhatsApp or Telegram. By then it had at least 15 reports, with more than GHS 124,000 lost. People are paid small sums, usually under GHS 200, for liking posts. Then they're told to deposit money to get bigger tasks, and once they've paid a lot they're locked out.

What are the common job scams in Ghana?

These are patterns named in official warnings. They aren't about any one company, since scammers often copy the name of a real one.

  • Task jobs on WhatsApp or Telegram that need a deposit to go on, as described by the Cyber Security Authority.
  • Fake adverts that use the name of a public body. The Public Services Commission says it charges no application or processing fee and authorises nobody to recruit for it.
  • Fake portals. The Minerals Commission warned about a recruitment link on an address it has no connection with.
  • Up-front fees in the name of an employer. GNPC says it will never ask applicants for money.
  • Someone who says they can get you into the Armed Forces. It says there are no authorised middlemen and its vacancies aren't for sale.

Some recruitment does have a voucher. How is that different?

The Armed Forces sells an application e-voucher at designated post offices, and the 2025/26 security services portal named GCB Bank and a USSD code for its voucher. Those are printed on the portals themselves. What should stop you is anyone selling a place, a shortcut or a voucher through a chat. Always start from the official site, and never pay a person who promises you the job.

How do I check a job in five minutes?

Open the employer's site yourself, not through the link you were sent, and find its careers page. Look for the same title. Then call the number printed on that site and ask. If you still can't confirm it, don't send any documents.

What if I have already paid?

Stop paying, even if they say one more payment will release your money. Save the messages, numbers and receipts. Report it to the Cyber Security Authority on 292, and go to the police. If you paid by mobile money, call your network right away and ask what they can do.

Questions people ask

Is a job on WhatsApp always fake?

No. Real jobs get shared there too. But the message alone proves nothing, so find the same job on the employer's own site before you act.

Does this check prove a job is real?

No. It shows warning signs. A clear result only means you didn't find any of these signs, so still check the employer yourself.

Where do I report a job scam in Ghana?

The Cyber Security Authority's 24-hour line: call or text 292, WhatsApp 0501603111, or email [email protected].

Does workghana.net charge for jobs?

No. Looking and applying is free. We're not an employer or a government body, and we never ask job seekers for money.
