Tips for this CV

  • Write your school results the way your certificate does: WASSCE or SSSCE with the year, and your best subjects with grades when the advert asks for passes in English and Maths.
  • Give National Service its own line, with the year and where you were posted. Several public services ask graduates to have finished it, so don't make the reader hunt for it.
  • Leave out your Ghana Card number, your date of birth and your marital status unless the advert asks. A CV gets passed around, and those details can be misused.
  • Add a passport photo only if the advert asks for one. This builder leaves it out, because a plain page reads best in application systems.
  • If you have a professional licence or PIN, such as a nursing or accounting one, name the body and say whether it's current. Employers can check it.

Most employers want the same things: your name and contacts, a line about what you do, your experience with the newest first, your education, your skills and your referees. For a school leaver in Kumasi with a WASSCE and six months at a shop, that fits on one page. A graduate adds a National Service line. You don't need a designer template, and you don't need to pay anyone.

What is the right CV format in Ghana?

There's no official format. A plain page with clear headings is the safest choice, because many employers now pass CVs through an application system, which can trip over columns and graphics. Keep it to one or two pages, and put your most recent work first.

Should I put a passport photo on my CV?

Only if the advert asks. This builder has no photo box on purpose. Most adverts ask for a CV and a letter, and those that want a picture usually say so, such as the Armed Forces application form, which asks you to upload one.

What do I write if I have little or no experience?

Use what you've really done. National Service, an attachment, a church or campus role, a family shop or a school project all count when you say what you did. Write sold goods and kept the daily cash record, not hardworking and dynamic. Then tailor the top line to each job.

  • A driver: licence class, years of driving, and the kinds of vehicle.
  • A shop attendant: the tills you've used, stock checks, and customers served.
  • An SHS graduate: your WASSCE year and subjects, any short course, and any work you did for pay.

What should stay off the CV?

Leave out your Ghana Card number, your bank details, your date of birth and your marital status unless the employer asks for them. Never list a qualification you can't show. If you trained at a tertiary or technical school, you can check its status with GTEC or CTVET.

Questions people ask

Is this CV builder really free?

Yes. There's no signup and no download fee. Your details stay in this browser until you delete them.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Fill it in on your phone, then use the print button to save a PDF.

How do I write a CV as an SHS graduate?

Start with a line on the work you want, then your WASSCE and school, then any job, attachment or volunteering, then skills such as typing or driving. One page is enough.

How many referees should I list?

Two is common, unless the advert asks for more. Ask them first, and pick people who've seen you work or study.
